My first Magic 100 - how did I do?

That's it. My first Magic 100 goal achievement program over! So how did I do? Well not too badly I don't think for my first one. I've organised them below for you to see.

Was it worth doing and would I recommend it? Absolutely! Having your list printed out for you to look at each day and having a deadline definitely makes you achieve more than if you bumble along with no clear time or plan laid out. It also made me realise that if there is something you've always wanted to do or have a go at, look into it and do it! I did a glass blowing workshop the other weekend and it was great fun. Life isn't a dress rehearsal

Many of us are spending our lives hurtling along at 100mph, forever trying to get all the stuff done that we believe has to be done each day. And before you know it you get stuck in the same old same old ground hog style day and then another year has whizzed by.

Would it hurt to stop, even for just five minutes?

'Oh if only I had the time,' I know you've just thought. Well just imagine you met your 80 year old self. Where would they be living? What would they look like? What would they be saying about their life? Would they be content that they'd lived it? Or would they be full of regret for not relaxing more, spending time with friends and family or going to new places? Which one do you think will be you if you carried on with your current lifestyle and habits?

Well, the good news is that there is a very good chance that you haven't reached 80 just yet, so you can start making changes in your life. And yes, EVERYONE, can make changes in their life, even just small ones.

So just stop for five minutes...and have a think. What would you like to change or make time to do? Write yourself a list using the following headings: family, career, health, adventure, finances and education. For example:

Family: spend time with family each weekend
Career: ask for a promotion at work
Health: exercise twice a week
Adventure: book holiday to Disneyland
Finances: put away 10% of everything I earn
Education: learn Italian

Then write next to it one action you could do to be one step nearer achieving it. For example:

Family: spend time with family each weekend – purchase tickets to cinema
Career: ask for a promotion at work – arrange a meeting with my boss
Health: exercise twice a week – arrange game of squash with friend and attend a fitness class
Adventure: book holiday to Disneyland – go and pick up a brochure
Finances: put away 10% of everything I earn – set up a savings account
Education: learn Italian – buy a cd course

I am personally finding this a great way to achieve all sorts of things in different areas of your life. Not just big things like booking a dream holiday and buying a new car, but also stuff you keep putting off like tiling the bathroom or clearing out the loft!

And how am I doing this? Well with the help of a goal achievement program called The Magic 100, written by fitness expert Dax Moy. It's about writing a list of 100 things you would like to achieve in 100 days and taking daily action towards achieving as many of the goals as you can.

100 I hear you say? But that sounds like a lot and I have enough to do already!

But, it's just about taking whatever steps needed to be one step nearer all those things you need to do and always wanted to do. You get to grade them as A, I will achieve, to C, nice to achieve. Now I know I'm not going achieve all 100 of my goals, but I'm aiming to take at least one action for each of them in the 100 days.

To read all about the Magic 100 and purchase a copy for yourself, click here*

So forget goal SETTING, go goal GETTING and start living the life you will be proud to talk about when you're 80 years old!

My Magic 100 goals list

Yes here is my first Magic 100 goal list for you all to see.

It is graded into A's, B's and C's, the A's being the most important down to C's which are the 'nice to achieve' goals. Some of the C's I know I won't achieve in the next 100 days like visiting all the countries, but I plan to look into them all, get brochures find out costs etc and workout how much I need to save. Was The Secret wrong?

Have you seen the movie The Secret?

If you have you'll know that it practically became the goal-achievement 'bible' overnight due to it's very simple, yet very powerful message about how you can be, do and have practically anything in life that you want as long as you do one or two key things.

They are:

1. Think about what you want on a regular basis
2. Think about it positively

That was it really. That was the 'secret' of The Secret!

Now, I'm not knocking this at all, far from it. First off, most people (myself included) can be really unfocused and unclear about what they want and spending some time focusing can be really beneficial, right?

And thinking positive, well, that's just obvious isn't it? After all, going through life with a dark cloud over your head is not really going to help you feel good about even STARTING your goals, let alone achieving them is it?

So I've no real problems with the advice that The Secret shares, it makes sense and, truth be told, thousands of people have already gone on to achieve great things as a result of following this simple advice, but again, there are a lot of people who couldn't seem to make it work for them and are now dismissive of the who goal achievement 'thing'.

Maybe you're one of them?

I certainly used to be.

I tried thinking positive and holding my goals in my thoughts but still, the bills piled up and the same old hassles that were always in my life before were still there so I did what most people would do. I gave up the whole goal-setting thing as a waste of time.

That is until I came across (yet another) goal achievement program that was saying some things that were very different to what I'd been hearing from the thoughts become things crowd.

In fact, this program said that thoughts DON'T become things, but rather, they could become things, but not necessarily.

It jokingly explained that if thoughts really did automatically become things
then most teenage boys would materialise pretty young girls into their bedrooms. After all, this is what's on their minds most of the time, right? : )

Sounds funny, I know, but it struck a chord. After all, if thinking clearly of something that's important to you, holding it in your mind and thinking about it a lot works to bring goals to life, then it should work, right?

And as to thinking positive...

I'd always been told that thinking positive was a critical step to making your goals come to life, but again in this program I was told that this simply wasn't true. After all, if being positive made your goals come to life you should be able to sit in the middle of a busy road, smile and say 'I won't get hit, I won't get hit, I won't get hit" and sure enough, all the trucks will completely miss you.

Not a strategy that I think I'd like to try : )

It all makes sense doesn't it? The idea that you can't just put on a happy face, think about your goals and have them come to life? I think so anyway : )

So what's the real 'secret' to goal achievement?

Well, I guess it's simply that there isn't one. Not as in one hidden thing that once exposed will bring your goals to life. It's more a case of having a strategy that is proven to work rather than relying on hope or wishful thinking.

What's the strategy?

It's coming... I promise!

In fact, I've persuaded Dax Moy, author of The MAGIC Hundred to spill the beans over the next week so DEFINITELY stay tuned to my blog.

Speak soon!

You CAN change!

Are you or do you know people that seem 'set in their ways' and believe that's that, they will always be like that? That you can't change anything about yourself or things that you have 'always' done?

Well did you know that all our behaviours and beliefs have been learned as we grew up and got older? This means that any behaviour can be changed or new one 'learned'. It's not too late!

Many psychologists believe that it takes 21 consecutive days of doing something different for it to become a habit. When we do something over and over again, a neural pathway is formed in our brain until it becomes hardwired. Once the behaviour is ingrained, our brain starts to see this as the clearest and easiest route to take. The more times we do something, the more we re-programme our brain so it becomes second nature. So the more we practice doing things differently, then the more chance we have of changing our behaviour.

So, is there anything you would like to change? Grab some paper and a pen and take a moment to do this following exercise:

1. If someone could wave a magic wand and change you into the you that you want to be, what would you look like? How would you feel? Is there anything you would like to do but feel you can’t? Why is that? Write it all down.

2. Now imagine you have achieved your goals. Try and visualise it. How would it make you feel? Why do you think it would make you feel that way? Write it down.

3. So where are you right now? How do you feel about yourself right now? Write it down.

4. What do you think and feel you need to do now in order to achieve what you would like? What barriers are holding you back and what can you do about them? Write it down.

Ok, now that you've done this, write a list of the steps you need to take in order to start making the changes that you want. Then break those steps down some more, even into daily tasks. Focusing on smaller goals or tasks each day is more manageable and makes the end goal seem more achievable. Keep focused and stay positive. Good luck!

Remember, you CAN change!
